INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2026

Celebrating creativity, conversation and community

Soho Diaries with Lesley lewis at the french house

In honour of International Women’s Day, the latest edition of our Soho Diaries series shines a light on a true Soho legend: Lesley Lewis of The French House. After 37 years at the helm of the iconic Dean Street pub, Lesley has become one of the neighbourhood’s most familiar and beloved figures. The French House itself has long been woven into the cultural fabric of Soho - a meeting place for artists, writers and musicians, known for its rich history and colourful regulars. Lesley’s story is inseparable from the story of Soho. From her early days running the pub to celebrating her own wedding in the neighbourhood, and even serving the likes of Francis Bacon, her time behind the bar has been filled with unforgettable characters and moments. As part of our Soho Diaries conversation, Lesley reflects on the community that defines the area and the people who have made the French House such a cherished Soho institution.

Next time you’re passing, stop in for a half pint - and you might just hear one of those stories for yourself.

Supporting the next generation with MIJ and Maya Jama

Later in the week, Broadwick Soho was proud to host MIJ Presents’ International Women’s Day event, celebrating the success of their mentorship programme led by Maya Jama.

The evening brought together a room full of inspiring women, mentors and industry leaders to recognise the programme’s first cohort - young women who have spent the past year gaining guidance, support and insight into careers within the creative industries. With Maya Jama leading the mentorship, the programme has provided a platform for young women to build confidence, connections and opportunities within industries where representation and access can often be limited. Hosting the event at Broadwick Soho felt particularly fitting. Soho has always been a place where creative communities gather, collaborate and push culture forward - and the evening was a celebration of exactly that spirit.
