BETWEEN ROOFTOPS

BROADWICK SOHO X EL FENN

This summer, as El Fenn takes over Flute, our rooftop bar becomes home to Between Rooftops, an exhibition bringing together the work of Marrakech-based artists Ismail Zaidy and FatimaZohra Serri.

Curated in collaboration with Hassan Hajjaj and Atay Atelier, the exhibition forms part of our wider residency with El Fenn, one of Marrakech's most celebrated creative institutions and a long-standing champion of contemporary Moroccan art.

The exhibition's title is rooted in a simple but powerful idea. For both artists, the rooftop was where their creative journeys began. In Marrakech, rooftops are more than architectural features. They are places of gathering, observation, imagination and expression. Spaces suspended between the private and public worlds of the city. Now, their work arrives above the rooftops of Soho.

THE ARTISTS

Born and raised in Marrakech, Ismail Zaidy explores themes of memory, belonging and identity through photography and visual storytelling. His work often reflects on the relationship between people and place, drawing from personal experience and the changing landscape of contemporary Morocco.

For Ismail, the rooftop of his family home was one of his earliest creative spaces. A place to observe the city, experiment with image-making and develop the artistic voice that would later gain international recognition.

Alongside him, FatimaZohra Serri presents a body of work rooted in personal narrative and emotional honesty. Through photography, she explores themes of womanhood, identity and self-expression, using the medium as both a creative and reflective tool.

Together, their practices offer an intimate portrait of contemporary Morocco through the eyes of a new generation of artists.

A CULTURAL EXCHANGE

The exhibition has been brought to London through a collaboration between Broadwick Soho and El Fenn, initiated by cultural ambassador Vanessa Branson, founder of El Fenn and one of Morocco's most influential supporters of contemporary art. For decades, El Fenn has championed artists, makers and creative voices from across Morocco, building a collection that sits at the heart of the hotel experience. Through Between Rooftops, that same spirit arrives in Soho.

Alongside works by Ismail Zaidy and FatimaZohra Serri, visitors will also discover pieces by Hassan Hajjaj and Moroccan artist Ali Maimoun, whose work forms part of the El Fenn collection.
